An Introduction to Stargazing

The objective is to introduce public viewings of the wonders of space. By offering people their often first view of the objects in our galaxy and beyond, we hope to spark the love of astronomy to those in his community and beyond.

Sidewalk Astronomy in NYC

In this initiative, Lucas takes his telescope to various neighborhoods in New York City and lets others take a look at the night sky. Anything from the moon, planets, stars, and nebulae can be easily seen, making it an ideal opportunity for those interested in getting a more hands-on approach to astronomy. It’s the look on people’s faces, after they see Saturn’s rings or the moon craters for the first time, that makes the whole experience worthwhile, and fun at the same time. Great for anyone who is interested in witnessing these spectacular views or wants to become more adept at looking at the night sky and recognizing the different bodies and constellations that make it up.

Anecdote

Since each celestial body has its own daily rising and setting times, similar to our galaxy’s sun and moon, one especially spectacular night, recently was when the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus were all visible at the same time, leading to some especially awe-inspiring sights for passersby. One was able to see Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons, and even the crescent shape of Venus, as well as the many details in our often underrated moon’s craters.
